SOLUTION ARCHITECT

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Accountable for providing technical leadership and consulting services for all aspects of the planning, design, architecture, evolution, performance, operational tools, and capacity of technical environments within Client’s Business Solutions technical environment as well as Customer environments. Specifically, accountable to develop and implement practical and cost-effective plans for the information technology infrastructure environment(s) to support the services and solutions of Business Solutions. Provides consultative expertise to senior management, Client departments and the customer. Leads the introduction of new information technology capabilities and infrastructures required to support existing and future services and will provide consultative expertise to customers as well as senior management.

People

1. Leads, directs and manages staff to ensure the effective use of HR resources. Maximizes performance by selecting (hire external or promote from within), developing, mentoring and sustaining a high level of expertise among staff. Organize and direct work including prioritizing assignments, establishing objectives, providing regular performance feedback, conducting year end performance appraisals and taking necessary corrective action as may be required. Assists in staff career planning, establishes development and succession plans and ensures relevant HR procedures and policies are followed (provisions of the collective agreement, performance appraisals, discipline, grievance, etc). Accountable for provisioning and managing contracted resources as may be required.

2. Accountable for promoting a productive and positive environment for staff that encourages service excellence, teamwork, initiative and models corporate values. Motivates staff by assigning challenging work, planning and managing internal communications and awareness of corporate direction, mission, plans and activities.

3. Ensures all safety, health, environmental and code of conduct policies, programs and standards are understood and complied with at all times.

4. Proactively identify and action opportunities to increase customer satisfaction (internal and external customers).

Financial

1. Ensure sound financial control within area of responsibility by developing annual operating and capital budgets, monitoring performance to budget and taking action as appropriate. Develops,

negotiates and implements contracts for acquisition of goods & services related to area of responsibility.

Innovation

1. Accountable to research, develop, define and implement innovative long and short term plans, policies and objectives in support of client’s ICT division. Provides expertise to senior management providing education, studies and consulting on opportunities that will impact business strategy. Ensures alignment and integration with the corporate strategic plan and develops plans and operational metrics, including approaches for demonstrating business value.

2. Accountable to proactively identify and action opportunities to improve revenue and growth initiatives, decrease costs, increase customer service levels and increase employee engagement.

3. Accountable to develop opportunities to spark innovation in technology or product service delivery or process improvements.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Accountable for the evolution of existing (planning, research, development) services and creation of new and innovative business models, capabilities, and infrastructure (data centre, network, compute, storage, security, application, IoT, etc) to support Client’s Business Solutions services and client customers.

2. Ensures the infrastructure solution is capable of providing all technical requirements in a practical and cost-effective manner through analyzing future business requirements, future technical requirements, and objectives.

3. Works closely with the tactical design and assurance teams, suppliers, other Client resources and Client Customers to determine technical and business requirements and ensure that assurance processes have been developed.

4. Plans, design and coordinates the implementation of infrastructure, applications or policies for client and Client’s customers.

5. Accountable for researching and prototyping technical/infrastructure solutions, vendor landscape, creating and recommending short and long term strategies, and preparing Executive presentations for required services to meet Client’s and customers business needs. Prepares and maintains strategies, plans, policies, educational presentations, and standards as required based on this research.

6. Manages technical/infrastructure products and services through their lifecycle by developing and ensuring execution of product introduction and retirement plans.

7. Provides professional advice/consulting and high-level support regarding technologies, strategies and

services to various internal teams including middle and senior management.

8. Accountable for managing technical project teams that will consist of both client’s employees, contractors, and customer employees. Provides leadership, direction and support directly to the customer and /or partner on pertinent technical developments.

9. Leads and participates in customer technology advisory initiatives, conduct customer technology and business assessments, including the assessment and design of customer technology architectures, integration strategies and technology/service roadmaps.

10. Provides consulting services inclusive of advisory, assessment, and architecture services which includes translating customer business challenges or objectives into technical solutions.

11. Participates in all aspects of the employee lifecycle including hiring, performance management, coaching and mentoring employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s Degree OR Technical Certificate and 3 years relevant experience OR 6 years equivalent experience in a related field.

2. Current standing of advanced vendor certification(s) as specified in the posting.

3. Thorough knowledge and understanding of information management technologies and management disciplines, along with extensive experience in the application of information technology principles, methodologies, and techniques. Experience in technology planning and/or infrastructure (data centre, network, compute, storage, voice, security, application) design, consulting, implementation, support or operations is desirable.

4. Experience in developing customer proposals and contracts.

5. Experience with developing and/or maintaining business relationships with customers and solution partners. Demonstrated expertise in managing & negotiating contracts, license agreements and service level agreements with vendors, partners, consultants and customers.

6. Demonstrated analytical, business and technical leadership in developing & delivering IT Products, Services and Solutions.

7. Management skills to plan, coordinate and control the resources needed to effectively support major projects.

8. Experience with financial management and budgeting.

9. Strong team leader and member, able to develop staff and influence the performance of others.

10. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to influence and deal effectively with others.
